UFC Fan Favorite Back in the Gym after Mental Health Battle, Teases Comeback

Staying in the UFC demands more than physical toughness. It’s a grind on the mind just as much as the body. Fighters push through pain, training camps, travel, weight cuts, and the emotional rollercoaster of wins and losses. That’s why seeing a retired fighter back in the gym can spark real buzz. Recently, fans were surprised to spot a familiar face—one who left the sport under emotional circumstances—not just training, but with that look in his eye—seemingly reignited.

Jalin Turner, 30, a former UFC lightweight contender, shocked fans when he announced his retirement shortly after a first-round submission loss to Ignacio Bahamondes at UFC 313. The loss was his second straight and his fourth in five fights, but the decision went deeper than the record. Turner revealed in an interview with Ariel Helwani that he had been struggling for nearly a year with motivation and mental health.

'The fire is just not there.' he admitted, emphasizing how the emotional and physical demands of the sport had taken a toll on both his family life and personal well-being.

But this week, Turner posted an Instagram clip that got fans talking. The video showed him training with teammates, captioned:

'That face says it all Ouuu Tarantula is already back in the gym. Having fun with the boys today!' Fans flooded the comments with support and hope:

'He’s Back'

'Jalin we love you bro I miss your fights, your still super young bro and skilled but I think you should move up in a weight division man you'd find so much success bro, regardless we all love you man'

'HE AIN’T DONE'

Turner became a fan favorite thanks to his 6'3" frame—unusual for a lightweight—and dynamic, rangy striking. His unique build and aggressive style made him must-watch TV. Judging by the response, fans still believe in his potential—whether he’s teasing a comeback or just finding joy in the gym again.

With his age, fan appeal, and physical tools, Turner could be exactly the kind of fighter Dana White welcomes back—especially if he's motivated and ready. White has made it clear in the past that comebacks are possible when the passion is real and the fighter brings something exciting to the table.
