At 38, Cejudo attempts a comeback following two consecutive losses to Aljamain Sterling and Merab Dvalishvili. Losses aside, he remains confident in his physical condition and is eager to reestablish himself in the division.
Cejudo embraces the challenge, stating to reporters at media day, "I love the fact that my back is against the wall. There’s a chip on my shoulder. I love the fact that I’m an underdog because these are the moments where I shine."
Song Yadong, 27, has been steadily climbing the bantamweight ranks, securing notable victories over Chris Gutierrez, Ricky Simon, and Marlon Moraes. Standing at 5'8" with a reach of 67 inches, Yadong holds a physical advantage over the relatively small 5'4" Cejudo, who has a 64-inch reach. Yadong's striking prowess is evident, with 12 career wins by knockout. This fight presents a significant opportunity for Yadong to establish himself as a top contender in the division.
Despite the well-rounded skill set of both combatants, this main event matchup will be a modern reincarnation of the classic striker vs. wrestler dynamic. Cejudo's wrestling background, complemented by his striking skills, will be pivotal against Yadong's powerful stand-up game. Yadong's improved takedown defense, honed under Team Alpha Male, will be put to the test against Cejudo's Olympic-pedigree grappling. The outcome may rely on whether Cejudo can implement his wrestling effectively or if Yadong can maintain distance and capitalize on striking opportunities.
