UFC Hall of Famer and MMA legend Randy Couture has been airlifted to a burn center in Kansas City. Following a serious accident during a practice run at a race track. According to a report from TMZ Sports on Wednesday, Couture sustained first and second degree burns, trauma injuries, and smoke inhalation as a result of the crash. But thankfully he is expected to make a full recovery.

Couture, 62, is one of the most respected figures in MMA history. He’s a six time UFC champion and one of only a handful of fighters to hold titles in two different weight classes. He’s also remained active in various ventures post-retirement, including acting, commentary, and competitive motorsports.

The UFC Hall of Fame inducted Couture in 2006 off the strength of a legendary run. He’s the first fighter to win UFC titles in two different divisions, a feat accomplished by 10 fighters since. He’s also the oldest champion in UFC history, holding a title at 45. Couture’s legendary rivals include a trilogy with Chuck Liddell, wins over Tito Ortiz and Vitor Belfort, and a fight with Brock Lesnar.

Same passion, different sport

Couture recently spoke about his excitement to be in competitive racing. You can tell that he’s bringing the same passion he brought in the Octagon then he’s bringing on the race track.

“This is a new way to tickle that competitive spirit that I’ve had most of my life, a new place for me to get competitive and make a mark in racing.”

“I’ll bring all the things I developed as a wrestler and martial artist into this realm and see what we can do. I have no idea how it’s going to go, but I’m excited about the opportunities.”
