Current UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall appears to have developed a brand new level of punching power ahead of his next bout this fall.
After more than a year on the sidelines, Tom Aspinall returns to the world-famous Octagon this October at UFC 321, where he will face French icon Ciryl Gane. Having not competed since July 2024 at UFC 304, where he defended his then interim strap against Curtis Blaydes, the heavyweight sensation will make the walk to the cage for the first time as undisputed champion.
The Brit earned the belt after reigning incumbent Jon Jones opted to “retire” from the sport earlier this summer. Widely known for his tendency to end his fight swiftly, fight fans eagerly await the freshman championship outing of the dominant European.
Known for his dedication to training, including soaking his own hands in gasoline to increase the density of his punches, Tom Aspinall has captured the attention of the mixed martial arts community on more than one occasion during his bout preparation camps. Just this week, the heavyweight bruiser once more made headlines by sending a sand bag crashing to the ground after hitting it with a powerful shot.
Across his 15 wins as a professional combatant, Tom Aspinall has recorded 12 first round knockouts, which have come against some of the best heavyweights in the world such as Serghei Spivac, Marcin Tybura and Sergei Pavlovich. After his flattening of his own workout equipment, it seems as though his already immense power has become even more destructive.
On the opposite end of the UFC 321 main event, Gane will attempt to finally score undisputed promotional gold for the first time after two previous failed endeavors. From 2022 to 2023, “Bon Gamin” vied for the heavyweight championship against formerly two of the top athletes in the division, Francis NGannou and Jon Jones. In his match with the latter, the then interim king lost to his previous teammate by unanimous decision, and in his encounter with “Bones,” the Frenchman was quickly submitted in just two minutes.
Putting everything on the line in what will likely be his final shot at the belt, Gane will come to blows with one of the pound-for-pound greatest fighters in the organization right now in Tom Aspinall, who currently sits at No. 9 on said list. With his back to the wall, the MMA Factory product has a lot riding on the line in his seventh UFC headlining scrap, with the very real possibility of retirement looking over the sterling French heavyweight star.
