Speculation continues to grow regarding a potential clash between Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal at the White House.
Ever since Donald Trump revealed that the UFC would put on a show at the White House this coming June, some of the sport’s biggest stars have continued to register their interest in competing on the event.
One of which was Conor McGregor, who immediately called the UFC boss Dana White and told him his plan to return on the monumental event.
‘The Notorious’ took a big step towards his potential return by re-entering the drug testing pool last year, making a comeback possible.
And although it seemed highly likely that the Irishman would return to fight Michael Chandler, White dropped a huge bombshell which put that potential fight to bed.
After White revealed that he is no longer interested in a fight between McGregor and Chandler, fans began to speculate about who the former double champion could return to fight.
Then, former BMF champion Jorge Masvidal teased a huge UFC White House announcement which led fans to believe that talks could be ongoing for a fight between McGregor and ‘Gamebred’.
Talking about that potential clash, UFC insider and commentator Michael Bisping has explained why that fight could make a lot of sense.
“We might be getting Conor McGregor vs the one and only, Jorge Masvidal, at the White House,” Bisping said in a video on his YouTube channel.
“If you ask me, that actually makes a lot of sense… I do believe that Conor McGregor will be on the White House card… Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal, that would be a sensational matchup.
“Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal makes all the sense in the world because for McGregor coming back, he’s the big star, they want him to win, simple as that, they do, the sport of mixed martial arts is a better place with people like Conor McGregor.
“The White House, being the magnitude of the event, it sells itself… Masvidal is entertaining, Conor McGregor is entertaining, the two of them are gonna stand toe to toe and bang it out… It would be a throwback, it would be a nostalgic fight.”
Despite Bisping’s thoughts, Masvidal hasn’t fought in the UFC since 2023, when his losing streak was extended to four-in-a-row.
This isn’t the first time the pair of UFC stars have been linked to fight each other, though.
Both McGregor and Masvidal had been teasing the high-profile fight for several years but when White was asked if the two could fight each other in 2022, the UFC boss said, ‘hell no’.
White went on to explain that at the time, McGregor was way too small for ‘Gamebred’, which is an issue that no longer arises.
