UFC Veteran Dismisses Ronda Rousey’s Shots At Kayla Harrison

Ronda Rousey has been loud lately. Louder than usual, and pointed in a very specific direction. Instead of spending her energy hyping up her upcoming fight against Gina Carano, Rousey has been taking shots at the UFC. She even went after reigning women’s bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison with a regularity that is hard to ignore. To which Matt Brown shares his opinion.

Harrison isn’t the women’s bantamweight champion by accident. She is one of the most dominant fighters the division has ever seen. And the idea of Rousey, however legendary her legacy, stepping back into that world and threatening her reign is a tough sell for anyone who watches the sport closely. Brown goes further, though, and this is where it gets interesting.

“I don’t think anyone’s buying the schtick. Nobody believes that she’s going to f--- with Kayla Harrison if somehow that ever was to come to fruition. No one’s buying into this s---,” Brown said (video here; warning viewer discretion advised).

His argument isn’t just that the Rousey-Harrison angle lacks credibility. It’s all the noise ‘Rowdy’ is making, even the negative stuff aimed directly at the UFC. Ultimately puts more eyes on the promotion she’s criticizing. There is still a fight with Gina Carano coming, to which Valentina Shevchenko made a wild comparison.

Valentina Shevchenko Compares Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano Using iPhone Analogy

Shevchenko has never been one to waste words. With the Rousey vs. Gina Carano fight generating buzz across combat sports, Shevchenko offered the most honest assessment. And she did it without throwing shade at either woman.

“Ronda VS Gina is like a competition between iPhone 6 VS iPhone 3GS. Excellent Vintage models.  Love them both. Physical condition come and go, but technique will stay forever,” Shevchenko said.

Two fighters who meant something real to the sport, who carried women’s MMA on their backs during a time when it needed carrying. The things these two built over years of training don’t disappear overnight. Whether that’s enough against the current generation is the question the fight will have to answer.
