There's a lot to be excited about for UFC fans going forward. A new TV deal that fighters and fans could reap the benefits of, several high-profile fights on the horizon, and much more, but arguably nothing is bigger than the promotion's rumored one-and-done event at the White House.
Two months ago, United States President Donald Trump declared that the White House would host its first-ever UFC event next year. Since the announcement, hype has been building around what could become the single greatest fight card in the sport's history.
Details have been trickling out over the past couple of months, helping fans to envision what could soon be made a reality. Shedding some light on the fight card, Dana White reiterated his desire for the event to be the greatest in UFC history.
"It's absolutely happening... What I want to do is build the best card that we've ever built that'll just make people go crazy."
"It'll be live and free on CBS from the White House... Even people in other countries will want to see it."
White later shared some logistics about the show.
"The way that we're doing this thing, like let's say this is the octagon, right? We're building this arch, almost like the St. Louis arch, like this, and the lighting grid will go above the octagon."
"So, when we shoot this fight, this whole backdrop will be the White House. And then, when the cameras move over and the fight's this way, it's all the Washington Monument on this side."
"There's a park that's sort of connected to the White House, and we'll have 85,000 people there with big screens. We're gonna do concerts, we're gonna do UFC X there. We're gonna take over DC."
White continued.
"There will be less than 5,000 people there. I don't give a f*** if there's one person there and it's [Donald Trump]. I'll do this with no crowd, you know what I mean?"
"To be on the White House lawn with the backdrop being the White House, I don't care. This isn't about the crowd for me, it's about being at the White House..."
"We're gonna be on the f***ing south lawn of the White House. I don't give a sh*t if it's just my production people, I'm good..."
"This isn't about the gate, the people, the energy... The fighters are going to walk out of the Oval Office. When they walk [to the octagon], they're walking from the Oval Office."
"For the fighters, the cornermen, my production people, my PR people, this is a one of one, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will never happen again..."
The question about who will be honored to be one of the very few people in attendance at the White House remains, but Dana White shared an outstanding answer.
"I think what the President should do [is], you have army, navy, air force, marines, you know, just have military guys there."
There's plenty to get excited about regarding the UFC White House show. Listen to Dana White share an update on the event in the video below.
