Former two-division champion (lightweight and welterweight) B.J. Penn was arrested this past Sunday on charges of abuse of a family or household member.

The Hawaiian native posted a scary video on Instagram, documenting his arrest with police officers surrounding him inside what appeared to be his bedroom.

Penn is heard questioning his arrest, with officers stating he was being arrested for harassment, but he kept arguing until he finally got up, where he was then placed in handcuffs.

“How can I be under arrest for harassment? This is my house,” Penn said. “I just went to go grab the mail. Can we call an officer I know that can talk to you guys? Why am I being arrested again? What kind of harassment? What does harassment mean?”

Penn was detained and later freed on $2,000 bond, according to online records. Based on court documents, no official charges have been made either.

In recent months, Penn has posted other disturbing videos, as well as making claims that people are impersonating his family members in order to take his assets. He has claimed that his parents and siblings were murdered and replaced by imposters.

He captioned the video of his arrest with a cryptic message, relating to the constant theme of his family being replaced:

“In Hawaii, ‘impostor theft’ refers to instances where individuals falsely impersonate others, often to steal their identity or commit fraudulent acts. This can involve using a fake identity to obtain documents, financial accounts, or even posing as law enforcement or other professionals to commit crimes.”

These consistent declarations from the 46-year-old former UFC fighter have many within the MMA community worried, including fighters Brendan Shaub and Jason Miller. Penn’s arrest deepens the sadness around his legacy, but fans are hopeful he can get the support he needs.
