Waldo Cortes-Acosta knocks Ante Delija out in bizarre fight at UFC Vegas 110

Heavyweight contenders Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Ante Delija clashed in the UFC Vegas 110 co-main event on Saturday. 

Cortes-Acosta entered the match at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas coming off a decision loss to  Sergei Pavlovich. Prior to the loss, "Salsa Boy" was on a five-fight winning streak. Ranked No. 6 in the division, he was looking to get back in the win column. 

Delija made the walk to the octagon coming off back-to-back wins and ranked No. 9. A win would've jumped him in the rankings and within earshot of a title fight. 

Delija landed first with an outside leg kick. Cortes-Acosta responded with a right hand to the body. Delija closed the distance with punches but didn't land resulting in the two battling for position in the clinch. Cortes-Acosta pressed Delija against the cage and delivered a knee to the body. The two separated and Delija quickly looked to get the fight to the ground. Cortes-Acosta shook off the takedown attempt. Delija inched forward and the two exchanged wildly. Delija connected. Cortes-Acosta fired back. Both men absorbed shots. Cortes-Acosta was hurt and Delija poured it on until the referee stopped the fight. Cortes-Acosta complained that the had been fouled.  

Following the stoppage, the referee reviewed the tape revealing an eye poke. They were prepared to restart the action and Cortes-Acosta was given time to recover. The fight was restarted with 90 seconds left in the round. 

Cortes-Acosta pressed forward once the fight restarted. He connected with a right hand that dropped Delija. Follow up shots ended the fight. "Salsa Boy" scored a knockout win. 

The official time of the stoppage was 3:59 of the first round.
