There is no doubt that the UFC matchmaking runs on fighters and their performances in the Octagon. However, a fighter’s marketability is equally essential. Super fights have been the most attractive for fans, as they typically feature two fighters of superstar status from different divisions. UFC head honcho Dana White recently gave his opinion when asked about the potential grand outing between Weili Zhang and Valentina Shevchenko .
The 115lbs and 125lbs champions have dominated their respective divisions, putting on impressive performances against veterans and former champions. White recently spoke about the potential super fight and showed great interest in materializing it. The UFC CEO also had some interesting thoughts after the reporter revealed that Weili had said that the contract was already signed.
I think when you think about Valentina and Weili, they are two of the best female fighters of all time. So, it is a great superfight to make. And obviously think Weili wants it, Valentina wants it, we want it, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t happen. Well, ask Weili then, If Weili says it is then it is.

For the uninitiated, UFC president Dana White had previously expressed interest in booking a showdown between the two champions. Speaking at the UFC 312 post-fight press conference, White gave the matchup a green light, saying, “They’re waiting for me. [Weili’s team] I love them both [Zhang and Shevchenko]. Maybe we’ll just have to find out. It’s a possibility.”
Zhang, fresh off a dominant title defense against Tatiana Suárez at the same event, has openly voiced her readiness to face Shevchenko if the timing works out. With her explosive power and relentless pace, Zhang has firmly established herself as one of the most dangerous and dynamic champions in the UFC today.
Shevchenko has reigned over the flyweight division for years and pushed former double champion Amanda Nunes to the limit at bantamweight. She remains one of the sport’s most technically gifted fighters. However, she has experienced setbacks in recent years against Alexa Grasso. ‘Bullet’ was able to beat Grasso in their trilogy fight, and finally at UFC 306, where she regained her belt.
Since then, Shevchenko has defended her title once against Manon Fiorot at UFC 315. Whether the super fight materializes in 2025 remains to be seen. However, the anticipation alone has already positioned Zhang vs. Shevchenko as one of the most talked-about potential bouts of the year.
The prospect of a super fight between Weili Zhang and Valentina Shevchenko has quickly become one of the most intriguing storylines in the UFC. Both have carried their divisions with distinction, and talk of a crossover clash has fueled excitement among fans and media alike. White recently spoke about the super fight and deemed it a more interesting affair than a trilogy fight between Shevchenko and Nunes.
Shevchenko has two losses against the former double champion and has often expressed her wish to complete their trilogy fight, as she has improved her fighting style and gained more experience. However, White believed that the boat had already sailed, leaving no chance for a rematch.
I don’t think that’s the right fight for Valentina. I think what you’d see before that is a couple more wins from Weili and that fight happening before you would see the Amanda fight again.

Both champions had voiced their interest, White had given his approval, and the clash had been analyzed from every angle. The matchup stood as one of the most anticipated bouts in women’s MMA history, representing not only a battle of skill but also a defining moment for the sport’s legacy. Even before it materialized, the fight had already cemented itself as a milestone in the conversation about greatness.
