Current light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira could potentially face former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones in a highly anticipated super fight, which ‘Bones’ has commented on.
Back in mid-2025, Jones had retired after turning down a massive offer to face Tom Aspinall for the undisputed title.
He later re-entered the USADA testing pool, hoping to return on the UFC White House card scheduled for June. However, Dana White ruled him out of that event due to concerns over his reliability.
Even with the noticeable tension in the relationship with White, Jones emphasized his goal of a superfight with ‘Poatan’, but it does not seem to be happening soon.
After Pereira called out Jones following his win over Magomed Ankalaev, Joe Rogan went as far as calling it one of the biggest fights ever, and many fans agreed.
The timing felt right for the UFC to take advantage of the buzz and book the match-up. And when White announced a card at the White House, many thought that would be where it happened.
Pereira has since said he has talked with the UFC about fighting on June 14th but does not expect to be on the card.
While neither side has fully confirmed anything, Jones told Red Corner MMA that White does not seem all that interested in making it happen anytime soon.
“Pereira wants to fight me but I don’t think Dana White’s gonna allow that to happen,” Jones said. “It’ll be interesting to see what Dana wants.”
The primary issue, at this juncture, is that ‘Bones’ is no longer the heavyweight champion. Therefore, it is illogical for the Brazilian to move up to heavyweight without a title fight awaiting him.
Since then, Pereira and Ciryl Gane have been linked with a fight for an interim heavyweight title due to Aspinall’s injury.
Aspinall recently addressed that buzz, appearing unconcerned about the possibility of an interim title fight.
UFC fans have not given up hope of a future heavyweight title fight between Jones and Aspinall, even after everything that has gone on between them.
But in recent months, the 38-year-old has made it pretty clear that his only real interest is a super fight against ‘Poatan’.
