UFC welterweight Colby Covington has responded after UFC CEO Dana White shut down speculation linking him with a potential matchup with Conor McGregor at the UFC White House card on June 14.

Speculation emerged that Covington and McGregor could headline the White House card. McGregor is seeking his first UFC appearance since his Dustin Poirier loss at UFC 264 in 2021, where he suffered a broken leg. Meanwhile, Covington has stated that the White House card on the South Lawn is the ultimate stage for his return to the Octagon.

Covington has not had a UFC fight since his loss to Joaquin Buckley in December 2024. Dana White was quick to rule it out, calling it “total BS.” White revealed that matchmaking is currently underway to finalize the bouts. Covington made it clear that he wanted to appear on the card.

“I don’t know. Conor kind of calls his shots. He gets to kind of pick who he wants, and I don’t know if he wants to fight a guy like me. I’m a tough matchup. I’m probably the toughest, most well-rounded fighter in the UFC. So, I think he may be looking for a striker or maybe an older guy. I don’t think he’s gonna look for someone like me, but I would love the opportunity if it ever presents itself,” Covington said

Covington’s Future

Despite those comments, Covington has made it clear that he is in talks to feature on the card.

“I’ve been negotiating with the UFC for the White House card. You know, that’s the one that I want. I told them this is important to my legacy and important to my career. This would be the biggest fight I’ve ever had is to fight on the south lawn in front of the President would be the greatest honor of my career. We’re in negotiations right now,” Covington stated
