What’s Next For Tony Ferguson?

Tony Ferguson secured a statement victory, stopping influencer boxer Salt Papi in the third round, as we look at his future.

This win marked a new chapter for Ferguson, who entered the bout on an eight-fight losing streak in his MMA career, with his most recent defeat coming against Michael Chiesa in August 2024. Ferguson is open to returning to the UFC, but for now, he has plenty of options in boxing.

Options

One of the most obvious options is a bout with Dillon Danis. The two have a history of bad blood and a potential matchup has been a talking point for years. The rivalry was reignited when Danis, who also competed on the same Misfits card, entered the ring after Ferguson’s win. A fight between the two would be a massive draw, fueled by their trash talk and the possibility of a rematch in MMA down the line.

“I was happy for him to get the win. We talked and he said, ‘We can get the money?’ GLF was offering some crazy money. I said no, ‘We’ll do the Misfits.’ I think he still thinks GFL’s gonna happen. He’s still… I don’t want to be too mean,” Danis said

Another potential opponent for Ferguson could be Jake Paul. Paul has built his boxing career by fighting former UFC stars, and Ferguson’s recent knockout victory makes him a credible target. A fight between the two would be a massive spectacle, pitting Paul’s boxing experience against Ferguson’s relentless pressure and unconventional style. The fight would be a huge financial success for both men.

A more unexpected, but equally compelling, option would be a clash with another Misfits Boxing star like KSI. As one of the founders of the promotion and a top-tier fighter himself, a fight with KSI would be a massive co-promotional event. The matchup would pit Ferguson, a respected veteran of professional combat sports, against one of the biggest names in the influencer boxing world. Either way, Ferguson has plenty of options.
