Why Derrick Lewis Deserves More Love
Jason da Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Derrick Lewis (27-12, 1 NC) has made a living as one of the more recognizable names in the UFC. He’s also made himself an extremely likable personality, with fans warming up to the Houston native.

For example, he expressed his passion for quality furniture with the owner of Houston-based Gallery Furniture, “Mattress Mack.” Nothing screams “comedy” like a straight-faced Lewis in a commercial with a man who loses $12 million betting on an Astros World Series win in 2019.

But there’s more to Lewis than meets the eye. After all, he has an upcoming fight in St. Louis this Saturday against Rodrigo Nascimento. Therefore, let’s examine why the Houston native deserves more love as a UFC heavyweight.

Derrick Lewis is a knockout master

Derrick Lewis has plenty of power in his overwhelming strikes. How much? He has 14 stoppage victories during his tenure in the UFC heavyweight division. That’s the most in divisional history and tied for sixth-most in the promotion, making him a dangerous fighter.

On top of that, he has 14 victories via knockouts, the most in company history. Whenever Lewis gets a hold of his opponent, he’s not afraid to unload on them. That includes his potent ground-and-pound game, which is responsible for eight of his knockouts (tied for the most in company history with Cain Velasquez.

Nobody knows how to set records and blaze trails like Lewis does. He’s a natural powerhouse who can overwhelm his opponents with powerful punches. Fans (and society) love an absolute unit, which is what the 39-year-old is.

Lewis is a great performer

Aside from his deadly punches, Derrick Lewis also knows how to have an incredible fight. He’s won the honor of “Performance of the Night” five times during his career, after all. He also has the honor of earning “Fight of the Night” three times during his career.

His eight post-fight bonuses are tied for the most in the UFC heavyweight division all-time with Stefan Struve. Fans should watch Lewis not only for him making history but to get an incredible show.

Saturday in St. Louis will be an electric main event between Rodrigo Nascimento and Derrick Lewis. Nascimento is no walkover, sitting pretty at a record of (11-1, 1 NC), while Lewis is 1-4 in his last five fights. However, fans should tune in to see the Houston native compete. Who knows? He might deliver yet another knockout.

Oilers to Acquire a Top-Tier Goalie. An Official Trade Offer Is on the Table in a Blockbuster Deal

The Boston Bruins have been under pressure to retool after a disappointing season, and now a potential blockbuster move could shake the entire NHL. A major trade proposal has surfaced that could send a star goaltender to the Edmonton Oilers, a move that would give them the elite presence they've lacked in net while forcing Boston closer to a rebuild. The deal being floated by multiple outlets would send Edmonton's current starter, Stuart Skinner, along with Matthew Savoie, Beau Akey, and a 2028 first-round pick to Boston, while the Oilers land a goaltender capable of changing their Cup window overnight. Edmonton's push for a franchise goalie could reshape the Western Conference and challenge the Dallas Stars' path to the Cup If this trade goes through, the Oilers would instantly address one of their biggest weaknesses, setting up a showdown with teams like the Dallas Stars, who already see Edmonton as one of their toughest rivals. Boston, on the other hand, would fully commit to a rebuild, pairing Joonas Korpisalo with Skinner in what could be one of the NHL's weakest tandems, likely boosting their draft lottery odds in one of the most hyped draft classes in recent memory (NHL.com). An insider noted, "They weren't the only ones who had inquired about Swayman, but yes, I was told they poked around." That comment shows just how wide the interest is for this level of goalie talent (Heavy.com). I think this kind of trade would completely shift the balance of power in the West, making Edmonton even more dangerous for teams like Dallas, who could end up facing a vastly upgraded Oilers team in the playoffs. If Boston truly embraces a rebuild, moving their top goaltender could be the first domino in a massive roster overhaul, something that could shake the market for weeks.

Chicago Blackhawks at Risk of Losing First Round Pick as Other Teams Pitch Big-Money Offers

Mason West is a talented prospect of the future for the Chicago Blackhawks, but it appears he may look to leave hockey for big opportunities in football. The Chicago Blackhawks landed Anton Frondell with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, but it was perhaps their second first-round pick that drew the most intrigue, as they drafted centre Mason West out of the USHL. That pick was intriguing for many reasons, with the 6-foot-6 centre having potential with his talent and his physicality, but now, the team may be in danger of losing the talented 17-year old. According to a report from The Athletic, the No. 29 overall pick has been drawing interest from several NCAA programs to join their team as a football player. Standing at 6-foot-6, the Minnesota native is a star in both hockey and football, tallying 49 points in 31 games at the high school level while also being a star Quarterback, and after putting up 9 points in 10 USHL games with the Fargo Force, the future is bright for him in both sports. Ultimately, at 17-years of age, the future is very bright whichever way West ends up going, but given that the Blackhawks used a first-round pick on him in this past seasons draft, they're clearly confident that they can not only keep him in hockey, but make a good NHLer out of him moving forward.

Josh Giddey, Bulls Millions of Dollars Apart on Next NBA Contract: Report

The Chicago Bulls have a very uncertain future ahead of them, but the one thing they need to figure out more than anything is what they're going to pay Josh Giddey in his next contract. If last season proved anything for the Bulls, it's that Giddey should be one of the cornerstones of the team. However, with how well he played after the NBA All-Star break, Giddey wants a sizeable contract. According to the latest report from Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Bulls are still very far apart from what Giddey desires. However, Giddey does want to stay in Chicago. "Could Giddey play hardball by breaking off talks and telling the organization that he’s simply signing the $11 million qualifying offer, betting on himself, then becoming an unrestricted free agent in the summer of ’26? Sure, but he hasn’t done that," Cowley said. Just how far apart are the Chicago Bulls and Josh Giddey from a new contract? Around $8-10 million. "He wants to get a deal done to stay in Chicago, and the Bulls want him as a foundation piece, especially after helping the Thunder to an NBA title by giving them guard Alex Caruso for Giddey last offseason. They are somewhere between $8 million to $10 million per year apart," Cowley added. The Chicago Bulls still have time to get a Josh Giddey deal done. However, it won't end there for the franchise. The other big elephant in the room is trying to figure out a respectable deal for two-time All-Star Nikola Vucevic.

Green Bay Packers: Brandon McManus’s Perfection at Training Camp Earns Matt LaFleur’s Unbothered Reaction

The Green Bay Packers’ kicker situation to start the 2024 NFL season was not exactly a great chapter in the franchise’s history. But it changed for the better once Brandon McManus signed with the Packers and took over as the team’s top kicker. In 11 games in 2024 with Green Bay, McManus made all but one of his 21 field-goal attempts, with the only miss coming behind the 40-yard line. He was a perfect 9-for-9 from the 30-39 yard range and also drilled all 30 of his extra-point takes. LaFleur relishes comfort of having a dependable Green Bay Packers kicker On Monday, McManus impressed anew and further gave the Packers inner calm about the kicker position. According to Mike Spofford of Green Bay’s official website, the 34-year-old McManus has gone 23-for-23 since training camp started, including one that he made from 56 yards out. “I don’t even think about it,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said of the team’s kicking situation. “It’s great.” Through his success on the field, McManus has repeatedly proven to the team that the Packers were right to bring him over and hand the kicking duties to him, beginning in 2024. Last March, Green Bay rewarded McManus with a three-year extension contract worth $15.3 million.
