Joe Rogan has suggested that Alex Pereira could be making a move to heavyweight, with talk of a Ciryl Gane fight.

Pereira is the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, who stopped Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 in their rematch to claim the title. Following the fight, Pereira revealed that he had suffered a broken toe which will keep him out until some time next year. The Brazilian made it clear that he wanted to face former UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones on the UFC White House card. Dana White has said Jones will not feature, while Pereira recently stated that a fight on the UFC White House card will not happen.

Meanwhile, Gane is coming off a no-contest against the heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall at UFC 321 in October. Aspinall could not continue after the first-round following a double accidental eye-poke from Gane. Since then, Aspinall has said he will undergo surgery after being diagnosed with bilateral traumatic Brown’s syndrome, an eye condition that impacts vision. While Alex could face Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg at light heavyweight, a move to heavyweight allows him the chance to compete for a belt in a third weight class. Achieving that would make him the first person to achieve it, thus going down as one of the greatest fighters ever.

Rogan Reacts

“There’s a lot of chatter about him fighting in the heavyweight division now. There’s a lot of chatter about him perhaps even fighting Ciryl Gane. I don’t know how much is true, I haven’t talked to Dana (White) about it. But it’s not an illogical move. He’s 240 pounds right now, 240 plus. Make no mistake about it, that guy can knock out heavyweights. No doubt about it. He hits harder than anyone they’ve ever recorded,” Rogan said
