At the UFC 303 Press Conference on June 27th, 2024, Ian Garry went off on Michael Venom Page (MVP) in the lead-up to their main card fight.
This came after MVP’s team supposedly attempted to get information out of Garry’s gym while he was in camp training for Page. Garry’s comments left MVP speechless, resulting in many fans speculating whether the comments he was making were true.
At the UFC 303 Press Conference, tensions escalated between Ian Garry and Michael Page as Garry called out MVP and his coach for trying to get inside information from his camp.
Ian was asked a question regarding his confidence coming into this fight, which is where he brought up the topic at hand. Garry stated “I’ve already broken this man’s confidence down so much. He knows it, I don’t need to say what I’m talking about. You know exactly what I’m on about. Your self-confidence is f****ed. You know what I’m talking about, and it will come out.”
He then gave MVP the choice to tell the crowd what he was talking about, before ultimately saying it himself. Garry said that MVP offered Chute Boxe Academy (Ian’s gym) thousands of dollars to get information on his camp, but he was unsuccessful in doing so. He also explained that Page’s coach was specifically the one who tried to get an inside perspective into Ian Garry’s training.
He then made the bold claim, “You and your Jiu-Jitsu coach are getting suspended for life” before Dana White intervened and ended the presser.
Ian Garry is set to compete at UFC 303 against Michael Venom Page in the main card opener. Both of these fighters are ranked welterweights and a win here could potentially boost either of them into the top 5 of the division.
Garry (14-0), has yet to lose in his MMA career and will look to continue that winning streak against MVP. His last two fights are decision wins over Neil Magny and Geoff Neal, who have been his biggest tests to date. Ian has proven himself to be one of the best strikers in the division, as he has gotten multiple TKO victories during his time in the UFC.
Michael Page made his name in Bellator before making his UFC debut at UFC 299, where he faced and defeated Kevin Holland. He is known for his unorthodox stance and his great kickboxing, as well as his showboating which is seen mostly in later rounds.
This is expected to be a great standing fight, something that fans will surely appreciate.
Ian Garry’s remarks at the press conference have led to the thought of Michael Venom Page potentially being suspended after this UFC 303 fight.
Firstly, it’s not confirmed whether what was said is true, and there won’t be any evidence showing that unless Garry’s team has some sort of proof regarding the situation. If this situation does turn out to be true, it’s obvious that both Ian Garry and MVP know that there is an extremely slim chance that Page will be suspended “for life”.
However, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be some sort of consequence or suspension for MVP as this is certainly something that goes against the UFC’s values and policies. This could very well end up costing him a few months and maybe even a year of his career, something that Page wouldn’t necessarily be able to afford at this moment with his old age and declining skillset.
It will be interesting to see if these comments made by Ian Garry turn out to be true, and the approach the UFC will take if that is the case.
