Zhang Weili suffered back-to-back losses four years ago today.

The former champion from China is one of the greatest strawweight fighters of all time, having left her longtime division with six title fight wins and three consecutive title defenses in pursuit of more gold.

Zhang Weili is looking to become a two-division champion at UFC 322 on Nov. 15 when she takes on the #1 pound-for-pound woman fighter on the planet Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight title.

Zhang is 1-1 fighting at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The first time ‘Magnum’ fought there, she was booed by the crowd.

Zhang Weili suffered repeat title fight loss to Rose Namajunas

Zhang was shocked when she was booed by the Jacksonville crowd at UFC 261.

That was the night Zhang lost her world title to former champion Rose Namajunas via headkick KO in 78 seconds.

Zhang picked herself back up, shaved her head like the American, and met Namajunas in an immediate rematch seven months later at UFC 268, which was held at Madison Square Garden.

According to ESPN, Zhang had speakers in her gym with loud boos to simulate what would be another not-so-warm reception from the fans at MSG.

Zhang trained with former UFC double-champion Henry Cejudo for this fight camp.

Zhang had a much better fight with Namajunas the second time around, outlanding her rival in total strikes and taking her down five times across five rounds.

Ultimately, it wasn’t enough for Zhang Weili to win back the title. Namajunas appeared to be the fresher fighter at the end of round five and she retained the title in a close split decision.

Zhang Weili’s rematch with Rose Namajunas was controversial

Not everybody agreed with the result in Namajunas vs. Zhang 2.

On MMA Decisions, 54.6% of the fan vote had Zhang winning the rematch four years ago.

Out of 22 media scores, there were 14 media members who had the fight for Namajunas and seven for Zhang. One scorecard was a draw.

The official scorecards were all different, with judge Michael Bell giving Zhang the first three rounds.

The other two judges agreed that Namajunas won rounds 2, 4, and 5.

One scorecard had Namajunas winning every round except for the first.
