The hype train for Jaland Lowe continues.

Lowe, Pitt’s rising sophomore point guard, had a stellar freshman campaign alongside Bub Carrington and Ishmael Leggett in the Panthers’ back court. Now, heading into year two, Lowe is receiving praise from analysts all over the country looking for him to break out even more. That list includes Adam Finkelstein, who is 247 Sports’ Director of Scouting.

“I’m going back to someone that I loved in high school, and that is Jaland Lowe at Pittsburgh…” Finkelstein said on The College Basketball Show on 247 Sports. “…Lowe is from Texas, and our own Brandon Jenkins, he really gets the ball rolling on the state of Texas, he’s got that state on lock from a recruiting perspective, so he saw him earlier, more frequently than I did. I got to dig into him at the Peach Jam before his senior year in high school, and I loved everything about him.”

Lowe averaged 9.6 points and 3.3 assists per game as a rookie. However, he kicked his production up a notch once he was inserted into the starting lineup. Lowe started 19 games on the year, and in those games, he averaged the following stats: 13.1 points per game, 4.1 assists per game, 1.6 turnovers per game, 4.5 field goals per game, and 1.3 three pointers per game. He shot 40.7% from the field across those 19 games, and 40.3% from three-point range across those 19 games.

“The fluidity, he’s so smooth, he’s got skill, he’s got feel,” Finkelstein continued. “Just got a ton of game and instincts. Now, last season, he got derailed to start the year at Pittsburgh. What would their year had been like if he were healthy from day one? How would that have impacted the dynamic with him and Bub [Carrington]? We’re never going to know. But, I think this year, he’s coming in, he knows the ball is in his hands, he knows he’s the primary guy. I’m expecting a huge breakout season this year from Jaland Lowe.”
