Marc Marquez’s Focus on Adapting to Ducati, Says Andrea Dovizioso

This year, seven-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has been struggling to find his pace while racing the San Marino GP, which prompts his former rival Dovizioso to suggest that his main focus for the 2024 season will be to sort out his Ducati bike. The six-time MotoGP winner had to wait until the twelfth round of the championship to secure his first victory while riding for the Gresini team. It finally came at Aragon, where he dominated the whole racing weekend.

Marc Marquez clinched that victory at Misano, this victory was the second successive victory for the motorcycle racer in the Grand Prix races. However, such is the luck of the current championship leader, the young Jorge Martin at the moment is ahead of him by 53 points. Yamaha rider Andrea Dovizioso shared the track many times with Marquez, and facing him in bitter battles, had his say about the Spaniard’s development.

Dovizioso on Marc Marquez’s Performance

Dovizioso gave an interview to Sky Sports, and they asked questions regarding the performance of Marc Marquez, and whether he will be back to his old form again.  He answered guardedly, “I don’t know,” but stated that the way last year Marc Marquez obliterated Aragon left quite an impact.

However, he thinks Marc Marquez has accepted that he won’t win the championship this season. This gives a vibe of a confusing situation, he is using the remaining time this season to prepare for the next one.

Preparing for 2024

From this season’s point of view, Dovizioso shares his opinion on Marc Marquez’s pattern of race. He further shared that the Spanish rider seems to be learning or building on each race weekend. He thinks that the story reveals how Marquez polishes his strategies to every single session of this weekend, which leads to qualifying and then racing in the grand prix. In the words of Dovizioso, this kind of cautious approach proves that Marc Marquez is not yet at his best. He stated;

In my opinion, we are seeing Marquez not yet at 100%.

Looking ahead to 2024, Dovizioso pointed out that he will also be facing the challenge of racing with a different bike as part of the Gresini team, he thinks that

Then he will use a different bike, so he is getting the maximum experience he can get in a completely different team from the one he knows. It takes a long time to get to this feeling.

He obliges him to point out his hardship, as he has to adjust to a new machine and environment. This implies that while he is currently performing strongly, he might be using this form to prepare for the next season. That ability to overcome these impediments and come out winners will be hard to miss in MotoGP next season.
