When Marc Marquez moved to the Ducati factory team, he had to give up his long-standing sponsorship with Red Bull due to the team’s existing deal with Monster Energy.
During podium celebrations, Marquez is often seen holding a can of alcohol-free Estrella Galicia rather than Monster. He hasn’t ruled out reuniting with Red Bull in the future if the opportunity arises.
The Austrian company remains a major presence in MotoGP, serving as a title sponsor for KTM and Tech3 and supporting riders like Jorge Martin, Pedro Acosta, and Alex Marquez. According to GPOne, they may soon pursue a partnership with the reigning champions.
There have been rumours about Red Bull potentially buying KTM amid their uncertain future, but that doesn’t appear to be their plan.
According to the report, Red Bull is looking to get back on top after watching Monster succeed with Ducati, VR46, and more recently Aprilia.
With that in mind, they could make an offer to Luigi Dall’Igna’s team for 2027. This would allow them to ‘resume their collaboration’ with Marquez.
Their vision is an all-Spanish ‘dream team’ of Marquez and Acosta. As the report notes, former KTM boss Francesco Guidotti wanted to pair the new riders at a new satellite team in 2024, but Dorna wouldn’t give them the grid slots.
If Ducati aren’t interested then Red Bull may turn their attention towards Honda instead. However, they only split from Honda as recently as last year following Marquez’s departure from the Japanese outfit.
According to the report, Red Bull are looking to get back on top after Monster have made serious gains, most notably with Ducati and Aprilia.
Ducati could receive an offer for the 2027 season, one that would let Marquez rejoin his former sponsors.
The idea is an all-Spanish duo of Marquez and Acosta. The report notes that former KTM boss Francesco Guidotti wanted to put the two together at a new satellite team in 2024, but Dorna didn’t give them the grid spots.
If they don’t go down this path, then Red Bull could look towards Honda, if they can land a star like Martin. They ended their agreement with Honda at the end of 2023 when Marquez left.
It’s easy to see why Red Bull want to put Marquez and Acosta together in more than just a commercial sense. One side of the garage has an all-time great, while on the other there’s a rider tipped for greatness himself.
Acosta hasn’t yet been able to win a premier-class race but is already considered one of the best riders around even in his second season. He’s also been called “the next Marc Marquez”, although that is something he pushes back against.
Dorna have been paying for English lessons for the KTM rider because it’s possible he becomes MotoGP’s new frontman when Marc retires.
But there are some who feel that putting them on the same team could be too much for Ducati. If that happens then VR46 becomes a logical destination but not one Red Bull wants right now.
