Last night, after the Truck Series race, the difficulty with passing was brought up again. Alex Bowman doesn’t expect Cup to be different. NASCAR has struggled with aero in not just the top series, but all three national series in recent years.
Alex Bowman is ready to take on Nashville, but he knows what to expect from the track. At least, he knows what to expect from this Next Gen car on this track.
It has been a quiet but strong season for Bowman. His speed at Homestead and Kansas, on their face, earlier this year, is promising for tonight’s race. But Nashville doesn’t race like those tracks. It is much more aero-dependent.
Bowman spoke with 5GOATs today in Nashville and previewed Sunday’s race a bit. To be fair, he enjoyed the finish of the Truck Series race last night, even with the challenge the dirty air gave Corey Heim and Layne Riggs as they chased Rajah Caruth.
“Yeah, I mean I think that’s just kind of what we’ve seen out of this race car at race tracks like this. So, just have to wait and see. Obviously, there was a lot of chaos at the end of the race here last year.
“You know, it’s tough to pass on these really aero-dependent race tracks. That’s just part of driving race cars at this point. Like, we see it really in every series these days. So, yeah, I don’t know. It’s hard to say what the race is going to look like. I did think last night’s finish was awesome. That was a good race between those three guys.”
Alex Bowman sits 10th in points. He has led 110 laps this season. However, he has no playoff points. No race wins, no stage wins. That could change on Sunday.
This year has definitely been filled with ups and downs for Alex Bowman in the NASCAR Cup Series. In the first six races of the season, he had five top-10 finishes, including P2 at Homestead and the pole. During that stretch, he had an average finish of 9.5.
The next seven races of the season were not so great. He has an average finish of 25.0 during that stretch of races. Not ideal. Still, there is a lot to like about this 48-team and of course, they are a Hendrick team. That’s going to get them further along this season than it would if Bowman were at another organization.
Bowman is a nonchalant driver. He doesn’t get too high or too low. That goes a long way when you are in a 38-week race season. Even with the mistakes this year, the team is doing well in points, and all it takes is one race to put them in Victory Lane.
So, expect passing to be difficult. Expect the sky to be blue, and water to be wet as well. Alex Bowman doesn’t seem too worried about it, but knows it is going to be what it is going to be. His job is to get out there and get the best finish he can get – ideally, a win.
