Alex Bowman drives for Hendrick Motorsports, which is considered a powerhouse organization in the NASCAR Cup Series. Expectations are high every time the No. 48 driver straps in behind the wheel.
The 2025 season started strong with five top 10s in the first six races, including a runner-up result at Homestead-Miami. However, in the last five, the 32-year-old has a single top 10 and four finishes of 27th or worse.
On Sunday at Kansas, Bowman had work to do after qualifying 21st. However, after the first stage, he had impressively moved through the field and finished sixth.
Late in that second stage with 10 laps to go, the HMS pilot had maintained that sixth position but wasn’t happy with the slower car of Ty Dillon and his inability to pass the No. 10 car.
“Get the [expletive] out of the way,” Bowman said over the team radio.
And he wasn’t done. When the stage concluded, the driver gave specific instructions to his spotter Kevin Hamlin.

“You go to the 35 car’s spotter and knock his [expletive] teeth out,” Bowman said. “I'm all for you being angry today.”
At the end of the race, the No. 48 pilot secured his second top five of the season with a fifth-place finish. In his post-race interview, he explained to Fox’s Bob Pockrass why he was so angry.
“There's a lot of dumb stuff going on,” Bowman said. “And I think for me, like just a lot of pressure to go run well and to go contend for wins. And the last month we've had a lot of really fast race cars that we haven't been able to show it because of a lot of things that have been really outside of our control.

“So, when we were as fast as we were before that stage break and then to just get driven in the fence on the restart — like it's really frustrating. So from then on out I was really mad because I'm like I had the best race car I've ever had here at Kansas and now it has half as much rear grip and half as much front grip. It did everything worse.
“So I was probably a little grumpy from there. And then when you get cars that are three laps down mirror driving you three different ways on one straightaway, it's like, what are we doing?
“You had the 35, the 11, you got mad at the 38,” the reporter pointed out.
“Yeah. I mean, his dad's deal's named after him,” Bowman said, referring to Herbst’s father’s business that is named Terrible’s. “So, I don't know what we're doing. That was pretty frustrating.”
