Brent Crews paces NASCAR Truck Series practice at Watkins Glen

On a weekend where road course aces litter the entry lists for all three NASCAR races at Watkins Glen, a pair of them fought tooth and nail for the top spot in Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice session.

In the end, it was Brent Crews, a rookie in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, who stole the top spot from Cup Series rookie Connor Zilisch with a mock qualifying run in the closing moments of practice, laying down a fastest lap of 71.681 seconds around Watkins Glen.

Zilisch, Kaden Honeycutt, Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Mosack rounded out the top five, with AJ Allmendinger, Carson Hocevar, Daniel Hemric, Grant Enfinger and Chandler Smith completing the top 10.

Notable results

Other notable practice results include Adam Andretti in 12th, Layne Riggs in 17th, Corey LaJoie in 18th, Ty Majeski in 22nd and Toni Breidinger in 33rd.

Dystany Spurlock, who is attempting to become the first Black woman to make a start in NASCAR's top-three series, was the slowest driver in the session, clocking in 38th on the speed chart with a fastest lap of 82.810 seconds.

Truck Series qualifying is next on FS2 and will be comprised of one 30-minute session with all trucks in one group. The Bully Hill Vineyards 176 will go green shortly after 4:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on FS1, NRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
