Bubba Wallace claps back at fan over complaints about IMSA coverage
Mandatory Credit: Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Just in time for the 2024 NASCAR season, Bubba Wallace is already feeling a little spicy. He’s not going to let fans make silly remarks. Not on his timeline. Wallace was quick on Twitter/X today to correct the record after a fan complained about NASCAR covering his entry into the IMSA Pilot Challenge.

Now, this is nothing new. Bubba Wallace gets complaints no matter where he shows up. Online, at the track, it doesn’t matter. However, he has never been afraid to hit back when he feels that it is needed. Or when he feels like he has the time.

Today, he definitely had the time.

NASCAR shared a story from IMSA.com about Bubba Wallace entering the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. He’s going to be joined by John Hunter Nemechek and Corey Heim on his team in the four-hour endurance event.

This fan felt that it was unfair for NASCAR to promote this content, but not, say, the Chili Bowl.

“Notice how NASCAR reposts this, but doesn’t repost anything about the chili bowl [sic], which features 4 current cup drivers. Chase Briscoe, Ricky Stenhouse, JJ Yeley, and Kyle Larson. … It’s [because of Bubba] Wallace.”

Bubba asked the user “Who owns IMSA? I’ll wait…” and promptly hit them with a “too small” gif courtesy of Trae Young of the Atlanta Falcons.

For those wondering at home, yes, NASCAR does own IMSA. They have for some time now. So, it makes sense to cross-promote a story featuring NASCAR drivers in an IMSA race. Also, just to add a little insult to injury, the NASCAR Roots Twitter/X page has posted Chili Bowl content this week.

NASCAR.com has also shared Chili Bowl content this week.

Bubba Wallace gearing up for 2024 season

The Michelin Pilot Challenge will be a great tune-up for the three Toyota drivers involved. Brad Keslowski was recently talking about the benefits IMSA could bring to NASCAR. Bubba Wallace himself has really improved his road course racing in the last two seasons.

Now, he really has to put his road course skills to the test. IMSA and the four-hour BMW Endurance Challenge at Daytona will be great practice for future races. The sport of NASCAR is heading toward more road course racing, and it seems to develop pretty well to short track in some cases.

If you’re a Bubba Wallace fan you have to like that he’s a little fiery online right now. Wallace is at his best when he has confidence and a little bit of a chip on his shoulder. While he finished 10th overall in 2023, he’s looking to improve upon that or at least, get a win in 2024.

As drivers like Shane van Gisbergen start to become more of the norm in NASCAR, these oval drivers need to pick up on road course racing quickly. If not, it is going to be hard to compete. There are now two road-course races in the playoffs starting this season.

This IMSA race should make Bubba Wallace and his Toyota teammates better drivers overall. It will be a cool experience, at least.
