This year's NASCAR All-Star Race is set for North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina, but Bubba Wallace has an idea on a new venue down the line.
Cup Series drivers returned to the track earlier this month for the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem. Wallace finished fifth at the Clash on Feb. 2, with his boss Denny Hamlin coming in third and Chase Elliott winning the event. Last week, Wallace entertained the idea of returning to Bowman Gray for the All-Star Race.
The topic was broached on an episode of Door Bumper Clear with Freddie Kraft, Tommy Baldwin, and Karsyn Elledge, with Wallace saying he "wouldn't mind" Bowman Gray hosting a future All-Star Race.
Wallace added that the improvements to the track at Bowman Gray, coupled with the raised stakes of the seven-figure kind, could make things interesting.
“Yeah, but at the same time, though, this is where I feel like in our sport when we, and I’m guilty of it too,” Wallace said. “When we go to Bowman Gray, and we know there’s nothing on the line. If you run into me I’m going to be pissed at you the whole f-----g season. Right? … We go back to Bowman Gray and have an All-Star Race, that race doesn’t matter [but] it’s a million dollars, right?
“It’s a million dollars on the line and I got wrecked for it, okay sure. No, it’s like, you throw everything at them so you’re going to race him like an asshole the next ten weeks. Like, isn’t this what we kinda want? You want the beating and banging, you want that stuff.”
After finishing fifth at the Clash, Wallace won the Duel 1 at Daytona but did not finish at the Daytona 500, coming in 29th. He'll look for a better result at this afternoon's Ambetter Health 400 in Atlanta (3 p.m. ET, FOX).
