Bubba Wallace's chances of winning Saturday's Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway are doomed after a costly pit road mistake.
During a cycle of green flag pit stops in Stage 3, Wallace, who won Stage 2 and was running in third, came down pit road for fresh tires and fuel. When he pulled out of his pit stall, however, the left-front tire from Wallace's No. 23 Toyota came loose and rolled down pit road.
A quick move by Wallace to pull into the pit stall of Chase Briscoe — a fellow Toyota driver — allowed Briscoe's crew to put Wallace's left-front tire back on, but the additional time spent on pit road and subsequent penalty for pitting outside of his pit box are, in essence, the death knell for Wallace's chance to win his second race of the 2025 season.

Wallace wasn't the only Toyota driver to have issues during the pit cycle, however. A fire and a plethora of mechanical issues — including fading brakes and an engine issue — plagued Ty Gibbs, while Christopher Bell incurred a penalty for hitting the pit road commitment line as he attempted to come down pit road.
Ty Gibbs says he has no brakes and he's got a fire underneath his left front. He's trying to get his crew to guide him through how to maximize what he has right now.

A pair of Toyotas in Tyler Reddick and Wallace swept the stages in Saturday's race.
