Bubba Wallace nervously watched final laps of Rajah Caruth’s win at Las Vegas
Nigel Cook/News-Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK

As Rajah Caruth’s mentor in NASCAR , Bubba Wallace is beaming with pride after the No. 71 truck made it to Victory Lane in Las Vegas. It is the first career win for Caruth in the Truck Series.

Rajah now joins Bubba Wallace and Wendell Scott as the only Black drivers to win a NASCAR national series race. What a race to do it in, too. Caruth started on the pole, the first of his career, and crossed the finish line P1 as well.

As the race wound down to the final laps, Wallace nervously watched Caruth drive his truck to the finish. You can tell just how anxious he was in the video below.

There are a lot of expectations for Rajah Caruth. He’s young and talented. He went from relatively unknown iRacer to making starts in Late Models then ARCA and quickly to the Truck Series with limited starts in the Xfinity Series as well.

Through the entire process, Bubba Wallace has been a guiding force.

At each step, Caruth has learned quickly and adapted quickly. While he had a disappointing rookie year, he now has finishes of P3, P8, and P1 to start 2024. Spire Motorsports has a real championship contender in the 71 truck.

Bubba Wallace, Rajah Caruth remain close

A lot of people overreacted when Bubba Wallace and Rajah Caruth had a little interaction on pit road at Daytona. All it was was a mentor telling a young driver what he did wrong and what he needed to think about when he looked back on the race.

For Wallace, it has to be exciting. He has believed in Caruth for years. Now it’s all coming to fruition. He was more than happy after the race was over.

“What a massive win for the little bro!” Wallace wrote on Twitter/X. “What a monumental win for our sport! Proud is an understatement! LFG!!!!!!!”

So, Rajah Caruth is a winner in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Next, he could be hoisting a championship trophy. There’s still a long way between now and Phoenix and a lot can happen by the time November gets here.
