Bubba Wallace questions NASCAR’s decision to remove 'exciting' scoring pylons at Talladega
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Scoring Pylons has been one of the most exciting and intriguing things at race tracks. Both fans as well as the drivers used it as a tool to spot where their racers are running at the moment and the excitement fans have when their drivers’ number goes up the chart is really entertaining. But recently NASCAR made a surprising decision to remove them from Texas Motor Speedway and Talladega.

It was a controversial decision and many current and ex-drivers didn’t hesitate call out the decision. 23XI Racing co-owner and JGR driver Denny Hamlin was one of the major voice against the decision as he took it X to share his displeasure and he urged the sanctioning body update it. Now Hamlin’s driver Bubba Wallace has also given a verdict on it.

The No:23 Toyota Camry driver pointed out that the drivers as well as the fans used this pylon as a tool. He said that as a racer he used to find the running position as well as the number of laps left in the race. Wallace also highlighted how seeing the driver jumping up in position really excites the supporters.

I mean, we use it as a tool to see what we’re running, how many laps we’ve left and gives fans something to … you see qualifying, that number, your favorite driver’s number jumps to the top. I think it’s exciting.

Bubba Wallace said via Frontstretch.

William Byron gives his verdict on the Scoring Pylons controversy

Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron, who isn’t known for being the most outspoken driver regrading controversies, also spoke out against the Scoring Pylons controversy. He pointed out that NASCAR shouldn’t be playing with traditions.

Yeah, can we not mess with tradition. William Byron wrote on X.

NASCAR has pointed out that the decision to remove the Pylons were made in order to update the technology that was outdated. But the drivers seems to less convinced with this decision as with out an LED screen replacing it, removing the Pylons and making the fans on grandstands to use Phones or digital devices would be a major vibe killer.
