Charlotte Roval being axed from NASCAR schedule may not be a done deal

The decision to move NASCAR's fall race weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway back to to the oval configuration may not be a completely done deal.

Early Monday morning, Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reported that Charlotte Motor Speedway "is expected" to shift its 2026 fall date back to the oval rather than race on the Charlotte Roval as originally expected. Bianchi also reported that an official announcement is expected in the coming weeks.

But former NASCAR crew chief and current analyst for NASCAR on Fox and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Larry McReynolds, doesn't see the move as a done deal yet.

Larry McReynolds doesn't believe Charlotte decision is final

"I do get a feeling on this one, that it is not one thousand percent completely official, that they're still is discussions that are ongoing," McReynolds said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Monday. "They're still boxes that need to be checked. It's not an absolute done deal just of yet. It sounds like it's on the table, it's in the works. Jordan Bianchi has reported it, which means it certainly has been floated out there. But it by no stretch is a one thousand percent done deal yet."

Charlotte's fall race has been run on the oval-road course hybrid since 2018. The track has also hosted one of NASCAR's crown jewel races, the Coca-Cola 600, on Memorial Day weekend since 1960.

The exclusion of the Roval from the schedule in 2026 will also mean that no road courses are on the schedule for the 2026 Chase. There are four road course races scheduled during the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series regular season.
