Chase Briscoe never received phone call from Erik Jones: ‘Mindblowing how sensitive some guys are’
Matthew O'Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Even after a lot of talk and conjecture, Erik Jones never called Chase Briscoe to talk about what went down at Phoenix last week. Briscoe confirmed he didn’t get a call, missed or otherwise, from his NASCAR competitor.

Erik Jones blamed Chase Briscoe for putting them in a four-wide situation which ended with Jones wrecking. Well, Briscoe didn’t see an issue with it. In fact, he was surprised that Jones felt the way he did.

So, after claiming that he would call him and talk to him, Jones has not. The Legacy Motor Club driver even doubled down on Friday saying he would ring up Briscoe. He did not.

At Bristol, Chase Briscoe spoke with Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports about the issue.

“Never got a phone call, never had a missed call. Would have gladly taken the phone call for sure,” Briscoe explained. “I don’t know if he just watched the replay and kind of saw what happened but never got a phone call. So, I don’t know, it is frustrating how guys are, not him, but just half of the field is sensitive on racing hard and that’s what we’re here to do is race hard.

“It should be hard for you to pass me like it should be really hard for me to pass you. I don’t know why guys get so mad about racing hard because that’s literally what we’re paid to do is race. It’s definitely mindblowing how sensitive some guys are to it.”

Briscoe then explained what happened at Phoenix having seen the replay now.

Given where these two are on the track most of the time, they are going to encounter each other again. Both Chase Briscoe and Erik Jones are hoping for a playoff spot at the end of the year. We’ll see if this rivalry turns into something more this week.

Chase Briscoe helping lead Stewart-Haas into new era

Honestly, Briscoe has more to think about than petty rivalries on the track. He is in a full-on reshaping of Stewart-Haas Racing. With Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola leaving the organization, it’s time for others to step up, mainly, Briscoe.

Together with Noah Gragson, he has already made some noise this season with a pair of top-10 finishes. Briscoe has been with SHR longer than any other driver on the Cup Series roster and that means he has to be a leader in some ways.

Not only that, Chase Briscoe made the playoffs in 2022 with a win at Phoenix. I think that Briscoe believes that he can win again and make the playoffs again. In the pursuit of that, this whole thing with Erik Jones is an afterthought.

In this new era of Stewart-Haas Racing, Chase Briscoe should be racing hard. He should race like any week could be his last in the car. The only thing that will turn this ship around are results and that means performing week in and week out, other drivers be damned.
