Chase Briscoe wins pole for Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis

Mitchell, Indiana, native Chase Briscoe will lead the NASCAR Cup Series field to the green flag in Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Briscoe earned his fifth pole of the year and his third in a crown jewel event on Saturday, turning a lap of 49.136 seconds in qualifying.

Briscoe also sat on the pole for the Daytona 500 in February and the World 600 in May.

"It's just super cool," Briscoe told truTV. "Hope we can keep it up there tomorrow, that's the one we really want to win."

Bubba Wallace will join Briscoe on the front row, with Erik Jones, Tyler Reddick and Ty Gibbs rounding out the top-five. Daytona 500 winner William Byron, Chris Buescher, Carson Hocevar, AJ Allmendinger and Austin Cindric completed the top-10.

Other notable qualifying efforts include Kyle Busch in 12th, defending Brickyard 400 winner Kyle Larson in 13th, defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano in 15th, Christopher Bell in 16th and Alex Bowman in 21st.

Ty Dillon — who will race Gibbs for the $1 million prize in the In-Season Challenge — will start 26th.

Denny Hamlin crashed on his qualifying lap and will start 39th after going to a backup car. Katherine Legge turned the slowest lap of the session at 56.963 seconds.

The Brickyard 400 will go green shortly after 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage on TNT, the IMS Radio Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
