Chase Elliott Exposes The 'Super Sketchy' Aspect of Atlanta Motor Speedway

Chase Elliott garnered all the attention in Atlanta after breaking his long-time winless streak in NASCAR of over a year. The Hendrick Motorsports star steered clear of all the chaos and wreckage throughout the race and finally emerged victorious in the race. However, despite impressively winning the race, Elliott pointed out the flaws and concerns regarding the EchoPark Speedway (formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway).

The Quaker State 400 was full of wrecks and crashes involving a lot of cars and drivers. Denny Hamlin started a chain reaction of collisions and caught over 20 different cars. Chase Elliott had the upper hand throughout the race, courtesy of a strong starting position. This helped him to stay much ahead of the crashing pack and not pick up damage in his car. Still, the #9 driver lambasts the issues of the Atlanta Motor Speedway which must be worked upon as soon as possible.

Chase Elliott pinpointed that not much had changed in terms of track layouts or racing conditions over the years. The 29-year-old reckoned that atleast the last three races in Atlanta weren’t the best. Elliott labeled the previous outings as ‘super sketchy’ which needed to be fixed. The #9 driver added that the first run was even more problematic as compared to the other runs over the race.

It hasn’t really changed a ton. I don’t know if you experienced this, but really, probably the last three races there, I feel like the first run is super sketchy, for whatever reason.

Chase Elliott said on the Victory Lap.

Elliott insisted that the 2025 race was even more troublesome as evident from the massive car wreck. The Hendrick Motorsports star reckoned that the car setup invited even more problems and dangers to the drivers battling it out on the track. The #9 driver recalled that he immediately complained on the team radio about ‘messing up’ the setup and race badly during the first run. However, the team pulled through just fine and helped him score his long-awaited home victory.

Then, this time even more so than it has been, it was so, you know — everybody’s so far into the corner of having the back of the cars down, and superspeedway-esque setups. We started that first run of the race and I’m like, ‘Man, we have messed up,’ you know, bad.

Chase Elliott added.

Chase Elliott opens up on receiving hate and cutting the noise

Chase Elliott has remained a very likeable figure on the NASCAR grid following his performances. Despite winning 20 races and other notable achievements, the HMS star still receives a fair share of criticism on the grid. The #9 driver doesn’t care much about the naysayers as he reveals how he cuts the noise from the outside and only cares about his own team and the people around him.

Elliott finally breaks down on the massive hate and what he does to deal with it. The 29-year-old asserted that he did not care enough about the naysayers and was okay with the noise. The HMS star insisted that he had his people around him and the team which he went to battle with during every race weekend. As long as his crew was on his side and he showed up with them at the end of the day, that was all that mattered to him, no matter the hate.

I don’t really ask enough to care to know, honestly — and that’s fine. I’m totally OK with that. You have the folks who are around you — your team and the people you go to battle with each week — and it’s about showing up for them at the end of the day.

Chase Elliott told The Athletic.

The 2025 NASCAR season has been very exciting as multiple teams and drivers are looking competitive to contend for the race wins. Chase Elliott has already locked his spot in the playoffs as he now hopes to hold onto his position in the standings. The #9 driver will have to work hard to prepare for the upcoming road course race in Chicago as he will have to get out of the comfort zone of racing around oval tracks.
