Christopher Bell reflects on ‘wild’ night winning at Bristol: ‘About as cool as it gets’

Last week, Christopher Bell picked up his fourth win of the NASCAR Cup Series season and did it at the Bristol Night Race. Considered the fourth Crown Jewel by many in the sport, it was an unconventional event. Still, Bell prevailed.

Goodyear and NASCAR brought an even softer tire this time to Bristol. It turned the race into what we saw in the Spring of 2024.

As happens most weeks, Dale Earnhardt Jr. had the winner from the Cup Series race on the Dale Jr. Download. Bell has been on the show a few times this season already.

Earnhardt asked Bell about the race and how it felt to win at Bristol. It was a moment that Christopher Bell will remember for a long time.

“Oh, boy. That’s a loaded question, there, Dale. That night was wild,” Bell said. “I’m sure everybody, every driver would say the same thing of, you didn’t know if you were leading the race, if you were last, if you were on the lead lap, if you were three laps down. It was wild. It was wild and chaotic, and fortunately, you know, the race played out for me.

“I think I said it post-race that whoever was going to win that race was going to get really lucky. There was no way that anybody was going to win without luck being on their side. When the yellows came out, when the long green flag runs played out, what tires you were on at that time. So, yeah, Adam did a great job calling the race, and the race fell for us. So, it worked out.”

Joe Gibbs Racing swept the Round of 16. Chase Briscoe, Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell gobbled up the wins and left the rest of the field with none. New Hampshire is a track that is likely going to play into those strengths once again. You could say the same about Kansas.

Christopher Bell gets on these hot streaks. He’s won in the biggest moments of the NASCAR Playoffs outside of winning a championship. Everyone remembers the Hail Melon, but Bell had two walk-off wins from below the cutline in those playoffs, the Roval, and that same Martinsville race where Ross Chastain stole the show.

We’ve seen Adam Stevens win a championship not once but twice as a crew chief. Bell is as good as he has ever been in the Cup Series so far in his career. Could this be his year to win the championship?
