As Stewart Friesen continues to recover from surgery, Christopher Bell has been named his replacement for Watkins Glen. Halmar Friesen Racing has landed quite a substitute for the No. 52 truck next weekend, a three-time winner in the Cup Series this season.
Toyota may have pulled a few strings for Stewart Friesen and his team. Landing Christopher Bell for next week’s race is major. They could go out and legitimately win the race, giving that team a big boost going into the playoffs.
HFR released a statement on the news today. A bit of good news as Stewart continues to heal.
“2017 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Christopher Bell will fill in or Stewart Friesen in the No. 52 Halmar International Toyota Tundra TRD Pro at Watkins Glen international on Friday, August 8,” the statement reads.

“I was honored to receive the call to run this truck for Stewart, a fellow dirt racer and Toyota teammate, in Watkins Glen,” Bell said in the press release. “I’ve spent time with the team these past few days and we are working hard to continue the great season Stewart has had and deliver a great finish for him and his partners.”
The press release also confirmed that the team fully plans for compete for the rest of the season. That is great to hear.
“The No. 52 Halmar Friesen Racing team, which clinched their spot in the NASCAR Playoffs with Friesen’s victory at Michigan International Speedway in June, will continue to run for the NASCAR Truck Series Owners’ Championship, and driver announcements for future races will be forthcoming.”
The weekend at Watkins Glen should be a lot of fun. There is going to be all kinds of NASCAR action. Starting on Friday we will see ARCA, Truck Series, XfInity Series, and Cup Series races at the track.
So, it’s going to be worth watching. Bell is going to be in the 52 truck. However, there are great talents in that series. Corey Heim has won the last three road course races in the Truck Series, dating back to the 2023 season.
On top of the usual suspects, young and talented Brent Crews is racing. He will be driving his own truck as he launches Brent Crews Motorsports officially next week. Outside of that, Connor Zilisch will race in the Cup Series again. He could very well win that race if all goes well for him.
