A massive hit for Shane van Gisbergen courtesy of his teammate, Connor Zilisch, at Watkins Glen late in the Xfinity Series race. We had an epic race for the lead when Zilisch and SVG got into each other. Austin Hill made the situation even more intense.
As Connor Zilisch began to beat down the bumper of SVG for the lead, Austin Hill re-entered the picture. That made the pressure on Zilisch increase, and his desire to pass only increased.
This was a huge hit. SVG is done for the day.

Connor Zilisch was faster than Shane van Gisbergen. At first, the defensive driving from SVG wasn’t a big deal. It was fun watching the two race each other and try out different things to create separation or make a pass. Eventually, it was clear the 88 was quicker.
The blocks from SVG also allowed Austin Hill to re-enter the picture. He was on Zilisch’s bumper just about when the wreck happened. Zilisch took a unique line to make a pass, had to rejoin the track, SVG didn’t know the space he had there, and the 9 car ended up wrecked.
Even though this time it ended with a wrecked car, it is always a delight to see these two race against each other. We get to see it happen again on Sunday. The two drivers will be far apart when the green flag falls. SVG qualified P2 with Zilisch P25.
Following the finish of today’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen, Connor Zilisch was injured after falling in victory lane. Zilisch won the race by leading 60 laps and persevering through multiple incidents. He was carried out of the track on a backboard.
The CW changed things up and was going old-school with the winner’s interview taking place in victory lane, not the frontstretch. Well, an interview never happened. Connor Zilisch fell while stepping down off of his car as his right foot was caught up in something.
It appeared that Zilisch twisted his leg and hit his head on the ground. He was motionless for a moment on TV before the broadcast cut away.
Connor Zilisch has been taken to the infield care center for further evaluation. He is supposed to race in tomorrow’s Cup Series event in the No. 87 Red Bull Chevy. However, that is clearly now up in the air.
