Corey Day, driving Kyle Busch's truck, to start NASCAR Truck race at Charlotte from pole

Driving a truck with Kyle Busch's name on it for a team in Spire Motorsports that races out of the former Kyle Busch Motorsports building, Corey Day will lead the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series field to the green flag in Friday's North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Truck Series practice and qualifying were both rained out at CMS on Friday, leaving the starting lineup to be set by the rulebook. Fittingly, Day, who is driving the Spire Motorsports truck Busch was set to drive before his death at age 41 on Thursday, won the pole.

However unfortunate it is that the first on-track activity of the race weekend at Charlotte was impacted by weather, perhaps some solace can be found in the fact that the truck Busch won one week ago at Dover will lead the field to green on Friday.

Notable starters

Layne Riggs will start the race on the front row beside Day, with series points leader Kaden Honeycutt, Ty Majeski and Brandon Jones rounding out the top five. Leland Honeyman Jr., Christian Eckes, Chandler Smith, Jake Garcia and Corey LaJoie complete the top 10 starters.

Other notable drivers and their starting positions include Ross Chastain in 14th, Brenden Queen in 15th, Ben Rhodes in 17th, Connor Zilisch in 24th and Daniel Hemric in 28th.

Caleb Costner missed the race due to a lack of owner points.

The North Carolina Education Lottery 200 is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET green flag on Friday, though rain may delay or postpone the event. Race coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1, NRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
