Corey Heim clinches Truck Series regular season championship with two races remaining

Another top-five finish tonight for Corey Heim and he has now clinched the regular season championship for the Truck Series. This is the second time in his career that Heim has won the regular season for the series. He is still searching for his first championship in the playoffs.

Tonight, Layne Riggs got the win in the race, but Corey Heim showed just how great he has been this season in his own way. This was perhaps the first time all year long, besides Atlanta, that Heim hasn’t been in contention for the win. No flukes took him out of the lead, either.

Tonight, it just wasn’t Heim’s night. Still, P4 on an off night isn’t anything to be super upset about. Watkins Glen and Richmond remain in the regular season. However, Heim doesn’t have to worry too much about those races. That is, when it comes to his regular season championship and bonus playoff points.

“Yeah it feels really good. Just a testament to how good we’ve been this year,” Corey Heim said after the race. “You know, I feel like this is probably the first race where I haven’t had a legitimate shot to compete for the win. So, that really says something, and you know, a little bit disappointed to come here [and finish P4]. I was actually excited to come here and try to improve. I’ve never felt like this track has been my best, but unfortunately, just kind of roamed around the outside of the top-five all day.

“Had a really good restart there at the end to get us track position to finish fourth. Yeah, just really proud of all the guys at Tricon Garage, I mean, they’ve been lights out this year. Like I said, this is like really the first race I feel like I haven’t been good enough, and I feel like we have some good races coming up as well.”

The race for Heim didn’t play out the way he imagined. However, there is a lot of momentum for this team right now. Heim clinched the regular season championship tonight with a 143-point lead over Chandler Smith in second.

Corey Heim has been so close to a championship the last two seasons. It would be shocking if he isn’t able to get the job done this season. Perhaps it will even be a bit of an indictment on the NASCAR Playoffs.

There is no doubt that Heim has been the best driver in the Truck Series all year long. But can that continue into the postseason when it matters the most? That remains to be seen. Next race is at Watkins Glen. Heim has won the last three road course races in the Truck Series going back to Mid-Ohio in 2023.
