Dale Earnhardt Jr. claims NASCAR drivers ‘went above and beyond’ for the Netflix docu-series
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

NASCAR has many expectations regarding attracting a new and diverse set of fans going into the 2024 season with its Netflix docu-series. Names NASCAR: Full Speed, the series hopes to give casual fans and outsiders of the sport a different perspective of the sport and will also share glimpses of the life of the star driver’s life outside racing.

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr., who has worked as an executive producer of the series, is looking forward to the release as he believes the drivers went above and beyond with their contributions to making the series successful. It was an essential investment from the drivers as they are the key to the potential success of the series that will be released on January 31st.

All the drivers that were a part of it, they went above and beyond what I think even they were expecting. So that was nice to see. The drivers are the key to open the door. If the drivers don’t give that access, this does not work. Kudos to the ones that were involved. It helped accomplish and create the program I think Netflix wanted to create. Junior told the RACER.

The series will focus more on drivers such as Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, William Byron, and four colleagues. It will be five episodes, with each one of them lasting an average of 45 minutes.  The show will feature the families of Hamlin, Reddick and HMS’s Willaims Byron, and more.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. explains the criteria for driver selection for the show

Out of the 36 full-time Cup drivers, only nine were selected as the main characters for the documentary. When the trailer was released, fans spotted that drivers such as Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch were missing despite being the top stars. Junior has detailed how the drivers were selected.

He pointed out that the drivers were selected depending on their willingness to get outside of their typical life and be accessible. The chosen drivers were the ones who offered their services to be part of new projects.

I think a lot of those drivers were selected because of their willingness to get outside of their typical responsibilities and be accessible, giving of their time, dive into a project and try to do a great job. The drivers who were chosen were ones who have been willing in the past to take on a new project or idea.
