Former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. applauded Kyle Larson for attempting the Indy-Charlotte Double this past weekend, but that doesn't mean he approves of his decision.
Larson's attempt at winning the Indy 500 was unsuccessful to say the least. He crashed out on Lap 91, which then allowed him to head over to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600. Although he led during the early stages, his night was cut short due to a wreck on Lap 246.
Even though Larson would like to compete in the Indy 500 again, he's not exactly itching to attempt the Indy-Charlotte Double again.
"The Double is just a tough undertaking," Larson said Sunday night. "I think the window of time is too tight. Even if I didn’t wreck (at Indy), I don’t think I would have made it here in time and probably would have had to end that race short anyway."
On the latest episode of the "Dale Jr. Download," Earnhardt offered his blunt thoughts on Larson's future.
Earnhardt made it clear that he wouldn't be excited to see Larson race in next year's Indy 500. He much rather see the NASCAR star just focus on winning the Coca-Cola 600.
"From a fan standpoint, I won't be that excited about an announcement for him to do it again," Earnhardt said. "I'll be more like, 'C'mon, man. Go win the [Coca-Cola] 600.' Does he win the 600 if he doesn't [expletive] with the Indy 500? I think he does."
NASCAR fans are siding with Earnhardt on this one. There's just not much excitement surrounding the Double because Larson has struggled at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Do you think Larson should attempt the Indy-Charlotte Double one more time?
