Unfortunately for Bubba Wallace, he was unable to finish last Sunday's race at Texas Motor Speedway. He was at the center of a crash on Lap 172.
Wallace grazed the wall on Turn 2 while Joey Logano was on his back bumper. The No. 23 Toyota for 23XI Racing spun out in front of the field and took out Noah Gragson. As if that wasn't bad enough, Alex Bowman and AJ Allmendinger were also caught up in this chaos.
During his post-race interview with FOX, Wallace took full accountability for his role in this wreck.
"I hate that I got into the fence, I think I was trying to give the No. 22 room. I just got the wall and started chaos," Wallace told FOX reporter Bob Pockrass. "Hate it for my team, hate it for everyone involved. But man, we were making progress from the start of the weekend."
A few days after the wreck occurred, Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed that he believes Wallace should've kept his apology in his back pocket.
On the latest episode of the "Dale Jr. Download," the former Cup Series said it was just a standard crash that didn't require a full-blown apology.
"I know Bubba took blame for it," Earnhardt said, via On3. "Bubba bounced off the outside wall and come across the nose of the 22 [Logano]. They were tight, though. I didn’t really think Bubba had to take responsibility. I think it was just a racing deal."
While we're not necessarily saying Earnhardt is wrong for this take, we understand why Wallace felt the need to apologize.
Wallace isn't trying to create any animosity between him and the rest of the field. He's also trying to be a standup individual. You can't do that if you're unaccountable.
NASCAR fans will get to see Wallace back in action this Sunday at Kansas Speedway.
