Dale Earnhardt Jr. gives Bubba Wallace advice after Brickyard 400 win

Following the Brickyard 400, race winner Bubba Wallace had some emotional moments on the TNT post-race set. Clearly the win meant the world to him, and he was struggling with how much of his emotions to let shine through.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. took a moment to chime in on that topic, as did Steve Letarte. Wallace took it to heart immediately.

“I want to give you a piece of advice,” Earnhardt said. “You don’t really need any, but this is the best advice that I think I got in moments like this: Enjoy every second of this.”

The message was simple but to the point. Wins don’t come often. Wallace’s 100-race streak without a win prior to Sunday can certainly offer him plenty of evidence.

On Sunday, that streak was snapped. With it came a crown jewel and a win that Bubba Wallace will likely never forget. He got to celebrate with his wife, Amanda, and his son, Becks, following the race.

All of that was wrapped up in the advice that Earnhardt provided. Each moment should be remembered.

“The rest of this, all the media you’re going to do after this moment, all the other moments you’re going to have with your family and friends, your team,” Earnhardt said. “Whatever party you may have tonight. Enjoy it. Soak it all in. You never do this again for the first time. And you also have, you’re locked into the playoffs and you can let all of that pressure roll off your back. I know what that’s like. Great feeling not having that pressure on you going into the next handful of races.”

Bubba Wallace let out a huge sigh of relief at that. He no longer has to worry about being on the right side of the playoff cut line.

“So just take it all in, enjoy it man,” Earnhardt said. “You can prepare for the next one in a day or two. But give yourself 24, 48 hours to have some fun.”

Bubba Wallace, mixing away a mixture of tears and sweat from his face, appeared to take the message to heart. How could he not? He was on set with a handful of his esteemed peers in the racing community, each one praising him for achieving something truly special.

It was Letarte who really drove home the message from the desk. He finished:

“Listen, don’t hold that emotion back because you’ve earned the right not to,” he said. “That’s the thing. We’ve all been here, we’ve all felt it. You’ve earned the right to act like you want, to celebrate like you want, to feel like you want, to be relieved, to be exhausted. You have earned the seat you’re sitting in right now so, damn, raise some hell. Have some fun.”
