The NASCAR season has gone from FOX to Prime Video and now, TNT Sports. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been a big part of that. However, not everyone is happy with TNT. Dale Jr. has responded to those negative comments this week.
We have seen a few races in the TNT slate of races so far. Just two more to go before we get to NBC to close out the season. While TNT has pulled talent from Prime Video and The CW, both broadcasts that have received overwhelming praise this season, the network hasn’t received that same praise.
Following up the Prime Video slate was always going to be tough. After the Chicago Street Race two weeks ago, Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a few words for those who may not be happy with the coverage on TNT.
“Second race with TNT, the Prime stuff was amazing, great group,” Earnhardt said on his podcast after Chicago. “Had a lot of fun, lot of help from NBC to sort of get them going. Tons of help. The TNT group is all TNT. Some people have been in the broadcast booth before. Some people have broadcast and been part of a race production before. Not everyone, but there are some people in the TNT truck that has some really awesome experience.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is an experienced broadcaster. Not everyone at TNT is, but the team is working hard to deliver great content in just a five-race window.
“Getting back to our broadcast, you know, there were some moments where we stumbled,” Dale Jr. explained. “You know, looking back on it, I certainly wish we would have left there with a better reaction or a little bit better temperature on social media. And everything I’ve read about [Chicago] on social media, you know, we missed the Bubba spin out of Turn 2, the 51 wreck.
“All of those things, everyone in our team are hyperaware that we, we all have had conversations even in the last 48 hours of, ‘Yup, I wish that would have went differently. Yup, we should have done X, Y, and Z, instead of what we did.’ So, yeah, I just want people to know, we are, I think that we as a team are aware of some of the things that we could have done differently in some moments. Some things we wish would have went better. And there is a massive want to, there is nothing but all-hands on deck…”
Dale Earnhardt Jr. knows that the team at TNT is capable. But there isn’t much time to get everyone together and rally the troops. Only Dover and Indianapolis remain on the TNT schedule. From there, NBC will take over.
