Daytona summer race once again evades Austin Hill

Austin Hill is unbeatable at Daytona in February and snakebitten at Daytona in August. 

The Winston, Georgia, native has four wins at the Florida superspeedway, all of which have come in February. Before Friday's Winn-Dixie 250, he had never finished better than 14th in the summer race at Daytona.

And while Hill did lead 22 laps and finish second on Friday night, it simply wasn't the typical Austin Hill Daytona performance fans have come to expect. 

Hill did win Stage 1, but got spun on Lap 56 and only finished 16th in Stage 2. That forced the 32-year-old driver to claw his way back to the front of the field.

Hill was fifth when the green flag flew in overtime, and while he put himself in a position to win, he was unable to generate a good enough push to get to around Ryan Sieg, who beat Hill to the line by a relatively sizable gap of 0.149 seconds.
