Denny Hamlin admits Kyle Larson’s win over his driver Tyler Reddick was ‘absolutely dominant’
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

After a disappointing start to the season, Kyle Larson returned to victory lane and made his championship ambitions clear at Las Vegas. He led the No:5 Hendrick Motorsports team to its first victory in a dominant run that saw him sweep all the stages and lead over 70% of the total scheduled laps.

He had the fastest car of the day and other than a late charge by Tyler Reddick in the No:45 Camry, no one came close. Reddick gave Larson a run for his money as if not for the HMS drivers’ masterful defense, he wouldn’t have scored the win. The margin between the leaders at the finish line was just 0.4 seconds.

Denny Hamlin, the co-owner of Reddick’s 23XI team and JGR veteran pointed out Larson was absolutely dominant on Sunday. He also highlighted how equal the No:5 and No:45 cars were in comparison, and how Larson used his shot distance speed advantage on the way to victory lane.

Just an absolute dominant day. I think that Tyler Reddick’s pit troubles helped with that dominant day. I thought that those two were equal, well, I would say Kyle Larson was a little better in the short run, and Tyler Reddick was definitely better in the long run. Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.

Pit-road issues ruined the day for Tyler Reddick

Hamlin pointed out that if not for the multiple pit road issues, Reddick would’ve been in the victory lane. He has regained spots every other stage, as he was losing many spots on the pit-cycles.

But it just kinda seemed like they merged right at the end of stages or the race win, but a lot of that was aiding Kyle was that Tyler just had pit troubles and was losing spots and it would take him forever to get back up there. But I would have liked to see more laps of them dueling it out. Hamlin said.

Going into the fourth race of the season at Phoenix next week, both Reddick and Hamlin will be hoping to secure the all-important win and the playoffs spot. Fixing the pit crew issues should be the priority for Hamlin and co at 23XI
