Denny Hamlin believes NASCAR: Full Speed portrayed him accurately
? Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Denny Hamlin hasn’t been one to shy away from the limelight, especially in the latter stage of his NASCAR Cup Series career.

That’s part of why he was at the front and center of NASCAR: Full Speed — Netflix’s fantastic look inside the sport of NASCAR and the people who make it go. The five-episode show has been receiving rave reviews, and Hamlin plays a big role in that.

Speaking with FOX’s Bob Pockrass, Hamlin elaborated on how he’s portrayed in the series, believing it was an accurate look into his mind both on the track and off of it.

“Certainly I feel like it portrays me correctly,” Hamlin said. “You really kind of worry at times, when you don’t have editing rights, you don’t have any of that. I loved it. This is Netflix’s project. They got to do whatever they wanted to do with it.

“I thought that my, what I am on the racetrack, what I am off the racetrack, was portrayed correctly.”

That’s always what worries athletes in these sport documentaries, so that’s good to know Hamlin believes he was done justice by the crew over at Netflix. He plays a pivotal role in the show, embracing the fact that he’s a controversial figure amongst fans, and playing into it throughout the episodes.

Whether you’re a NASCAR fan, have a strong opinion on Denny Hamlin or just a casual looking for something to binge, NASCAR: Full Speed is looking like a hit. Fire it up if you have some time and can’t stop scrolling Netflix, and see exactly what the veteran NASCAR wheelman is talking about.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. raves about NASCAR drivers going ‘above and beyond’ in Netflix series

Moreover, the legendary Dale Earnhardt Jr. was an executive producer on the show, and the way the drivers handled the exposure excited him.

Earnhardt Jr. was part of the making of the series, as one of his latest ventures in bringing NASCAR to a whole new place. Speaking with Racer Mag‘s Kelly Crandall, Earnhardt talked about the drivers featured in the series.

There are nine drivers that are the main characters in the NASCAR Netflix series. Those drivers allowed the cameras to see what life was like. At the track, at home, in the motorhome, and elsewhere. This is going to be an in-depth look at the life of these Cup Series drivers, and it’s all thanks to their effort.

“I think a lot of those drivers were selected because of their willingness to get outside of their typical responsibilities and be accessible, giving of their time, dive into a project and try to do a great job … All the drivers that were a part of it, they went above and beyond what I think even they were expecting,” Earnhardt Jr. said to Crandall. “So that was nice to see. The drivers are key to open the door.

“If the drivers don’t give that access, this does not work. Kudos to the ones that were involved. It helped accomplish and create the program I think Netflix wanted to create.”

There were a lot of wild moments at the end of the season and throughout the playoffs. Hopefully, those come through and more in the show, as well as a more in-depth look at the driver’s personalities, which can be tough to shine through at times.
