Denny Hamlin breaks down ‘trifecta’ of wrecking in each stage: ‘I feel like a victim’

After multiple incidents on the track, Denny Hamlin tried to put himself in a position to win, but he was involved in one too many. The NASCAR driver was put in a four-wide situation and didn’t make it out on the other side.

This race was getting to the nitty-gritty at the end. We had jostling for position and three, four-wide action on the track. It was exciting and envigorating, drivers said they were having fun on the track racing.

However, Chase Briscoe came out of line to go from three to four-wide one too many times. He just tapped Denny Hamlin and then the 14 car went around. With a little extra bump from Josh Berry, Hamlin went hard into Briscoe’s car.

It was a big enough wreck to bring out the red flag once NASCAR saw fluid all over the track.

After the race, Hamlin explained how his day went. He hit the “trifecta.”

“Trifecta, they mentioned we wrecked in every stage so we completed the trifecta,” Hamlin told Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.

Hamlin hasn’t seen the replays, but he doesn’t feel like it was really his fault.

“I gotta look at them but I feel like a victim, I don’t know. The 41 [Ryan Preece] or 14 [Chase Briscoe] whoever ended up spinning out, I guess I ran into but I mean I’m four-wide I had nowhere to go on the bottom. The 99 put me four-wide, second from the bottom, there just was no room.

“Then on the frontstretch the 8 [Kyle Busch] spun us but I don’t even know, I was totally caught off guard I don’t know if I hedged too low on the straightaway I knew I was on the outside, but I’m not sure. But certainly everything but the pace car today.”

Denny Hamlin limps to P23 finish in thriller at Atlanta

Really, it is a shame that Denny Hamlin couldn’t be part of that epic finish tonight. For a time, it looked like Hamlin and Kyle Bush would race this one down to the line. However, we got a finish that was an instant classic even without the 11 involved.

Coming off the last turn, Busch and Daniel Suárez flew up to run even with Ryan Blaney after a huge run off the back straightaway. The three drivers went door to door with one another and across the finish line.

It was too close to call with the naked eye. However, on the replay, Daniel Suárez was deemed the winner by a margin of 0.003 seconds over Ryan Blaney. Busch was 0.007 seconds from claiming the win.

The incident with Chase Briscoe that Denny Hamlin mentioned ruined his day. Briscoe was a DNF. Meanwhile, Hamlin limped along to ride out the end of the Ambetter Health 400. He finished P23, earning just 14 points on the day. Not the best start to the season, but it could have been worse.

Will we see Denny bounce back at Las Vegas next week?
