Denny Hamlin Gets Honest About Not 'Doing All the Work' Off the Track

Following a 20th-place finish at Sonoma, Denny Hamlin flipped the script this week by clinching the Cup Series race at the Dover International Speedway. He sprinted from 13th place to take the victory for Joe Gibbs Racing, bringing in a 1-2 finish alongside his teammate, Chase Briscoe. This marked his second straight win in a row at the Delaware-based racetrack.

The Dover winner has now secured four wins, ten top-fives, and 11 top-ten finishes in the current Cup championship. His latest win takes his total victories in the series to 58. On the track, he's doing everything he can in pursuit of his first NASCAR Cup title. However, at home, the veteran racer is not putting in all the work when caring for his newborn son.

Discussing his new babysitting role on Kevin Harvick's Happy Hour podcast, the 44-year-old admitted that his fiancée, Jordan Fish, mostly takes care of their newborn son, Jameson, while he looks after their two older children.

"I'd honestly forgotten the whole process—and I'm not even the one doing all the work!" Denny Hamlin said. "Right now, my job is to wrangle up the other two so they're not a burden to her while she's doing all the baby work. That's my primary focus—making sure the older kids are taken care of, preparing their dinner, getting them dressed, brushing their teeth, and doing all the things they need. That gives her the time she needs with Jameson. That's primarily my thing at the moment.

"He's doing fantastic, though. It's a great addition—and honestly, a welcome distraction in my world right now."

Before welcoming their first son, the Cup Series full-timer was already a father to two older daughters, Taylor (12) and Molly (7). Reflecting on this, he humorously shared his parenting struggles while changing his newborn son’s diaper—compared to how it was with his daughters.

"Well, I’ll tell you, Kevin—one thing I’ve learned in this process, and you probably found out too, is that boys are a little more sensitive," said Hamlin. "They’ll usually hit you with a little fountain while you’re trying to change them. Girls, that’s more straightforward. Once they go, they go—you change them and you’re good.

"But with boys? No, you’ve got to cover up the cat there or you’ll make a bigger mess than what they started with."

Besides his babysitting duties, the Florida native will next pilot JGR's #11 Camry XSE on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400 race. The Cup Series race will take place next Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
