Denny Hamlin had no problem sharing his unfiltered thoughts about Texas Motor Speedway on his "Actions Detrimental Podcast."
There were 12 cautions during last Sunday's race at Texas Motor Speedway. Perhaps the most notable wreck was the one that resulted in Bubba Wallace, Noah Gragson, Alex Bowman and AJ Allmendinger leaving the track early.
So, what led to all this chaos at Texas Motor Speedway? According to Hamlin, it all comes down to the track profile.
"It’s very flat [Turn] 1 and 2. So if you get down close to somebody, you don’t give them much room, contact can be made easily," Hamlin explained, via On3. "Off of Turn 2 is a very flat corner. So typically, the characteristics of the car is that you’ll lose the front nose.
"Well, if you have someone right on the outside of you, and we saw this with Carson Hocevar and [Ryan] Preece. Preece is on the outside of Carson Hocevar. Carson’s already in a vulnerable part of the racetrack where his car is starting to lose front grip because the track is flattening out. Preece is right there on his outside dumping air on his spoiler. Carson’s car just takes off right. Just flat takes off and it pinches Preece into the wall."
Earlier this week, a rumor about Texas Motor Speedway repaving its surface gained serious traction. It became such a strong talking point that Dale Earnhardt Jr. addressed it on his podcast. He made it clear that he's fond of the track's current setup.
"There was a rumor going around that some track on the NASCAR circuit was considering getting the Atlanta treatment. But I believe that it’s not Texas," Earnhardt said. "I’d seen some messages on social about someone thinking that there was a track considering that, but it is not Texas."
If that's true, NASCAR fans should expect to see more cautions when the Cup Series returns to Texas.
