Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

While most of the race at Richmond last week went normal, the final laps of the event were eventful to say the least. Denny Hamlin who was running P3 till then won in the pit-road battle and later won the race.

The drama didn’t end there, Martin Truex Jr. who was frustrated after the loss bumped Denny Hamlin multiple times from behind to show his feelings. It was very un-characteristic of the No:19 driver. In his post-race interview the 2017 Champion called out the No:11 driver for jumpstarting and his hyper aggressive racing of his teammate.

Hamlin later sat down with NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the Dale Jr. Download podcast and discussed about the win. While talking about the post-race drama, he was asked what happened in the JGR competition meeting after the Richmond race. Hamlin then revelled that the veteran drivers hasn’t attended the meeting in-person for the last three years.

Denny Hamlin reveals how Martin Truex Jr. get back to level head after such a loss

Dale Earnhardt J. wasn’t surprised when Hamlin said Truex Jr. didn’t attended the meeting. Being ex-teammates and close friends, he knows the No:19 often likes go outdoors. Hamlin, while discussing on the topic, pointed out that his teammate is getting the therapy he needed by spending time outdoors.

I think it’s going to be alright, I think he’s getting the therapy he needs which is outdoors. He’s out in the woods or he’s fishing which that’s what he needs. Denny Hamlin said.

The three times Daytona 500, though believes he did nothing wrong, admitted that he feels bad to see what happened to the 2017 Champion. He empathized with the TRD driver and said he reckons Truex Jr. move on after a good sleep.

I think he needed a night to sleep on it and get over it. I definitely understood and I empathize with him a little bit, because listen, rightfully so, you were upset for vast reasons and you deserved to be. Denny Hamlin added.

Martin Truex Jr. had all the right to be furious last week at Richmond. He lost a race that would’ve been his because of an incident that has nothing to do with him. What was more frustrating is the fact that it was his sixth race in the last 10 years where he has failed to win at Richmond despite leading over 100 laps. He would be hoping to bounce back with a good weekend at Martinsville.
