Denny Hamlin Makes Announcement Before NASCAR's Mexico Race

Denny Hamlin won on Sunday at Michigan for his third NASCAR Cup Series victory in 2025. While his 57th career Cup win was understandably a notable achievement for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, it was just one of the main storylines about the driver heading into and coming out of the weekend. The other was the pending birth of his son.

On Tuesday, the 44-year-old visited with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about his win in the Irish Hills and was also asked about his soon-to-be-born baby boy and plans for the upcoming week as the series travels south of the border to Mexico.

“I said from the very beginning, if she hasn't had it by the time I need to leave for Mexico, then I'm not gonna go to Mexico,” Hamlin said. “I think that that's the proper thing to do. But really just letting her call the shots. I think that's the best thing.

"And when she, her body and her mind says that it's time, then that's what we'll do. And ultimately, I need to be there for her during, post and and all those things. So, just gonna make sure I spend the proper time with her and obviously the racing will come second this week.”

@dennyhamlin joined #SXMOnTrack and gave an update on his racing plans for Mexico City if his third child hasn't arrived yet.

According to the the plans, that means if the baby isn’t born by Thursday, the three-time Daytona 500 champion will be staying home in North Carolina. If his firstborn son comes before then, he’ll likely be heading to Mexico.
